Heart Pixel Quilt Update 3

I know it’s been a hot minute since I did an update on this project. I’m happy to announce its not cause I forgot or that next steps take time.

It cause someone on my Tiktok gave me some AMAZING info on nesting your squares which in turn makes them line up better. I have been agonizing over ripping apart all the panels and redoing them. It’s only 11 panels! right?!

Ultimately I have decided not to take them apart. This is my first pixel quilt and I expected it to be a learning process. Nesting will be part of the next one 🙂

Moving on! The next step to this quilt is evening out the sides so they are straight. Since my squares did not line up perfect this means my ends of the panel are not either.

Once I’ve got my mostly straight ends it’s time to sew it down to the batting and backing fabric. Since I will binding my quilt with the backing fabric I cut my backing to be about 4 inches bigger than my pixel piece.

To start I iron my batting then lay my pixel piece on top. Once I’ve got it centered I use spray bond to stick them together and cut off any access batting. You don’t have to cut the excess batting but it makes placement on my backing easier for me.

I measure out the 4″ in all 4 corners of my batting then make the center on the short sides. Lining up the corner of the batting/pixel with the 4″ mark on the batting I get my piece into place adjusting till all 4 corners sit just right.

Then starting at one side I lift and spray bond the batting to the backing.

SUPER IMPORTANT! Make sure you backing is face down and your top if face up! Also lightly spay the spray bond so you don’t stick the whole thing to the table!

Once everything is in place I am going to stitch in the ditch down the seams to stitch my layers together.

See you once I’m done sticking 🙂
