Cutting Fabric

Cutting Fabric – easiest step right? For some reason I find this to be the hardest step! I cannot cut a straight line if my life depended on it!

You can cut with an either a scissor or a rotary cutter right? Well you also need to have a pattern or a ruler to make your measurements.

When using a pattern I place the pattern on the fabric and trace it then cut it out with scissors with a bit of excess. This type of cutting is super easy! The pattern already is measured and mapped out for you.

BUT! when you just need a square or have to measure the pieces yourself, you need to be careful to make sure you have 90 degree angles. If you don’t have a L ruler then this can be a bit difficult.

To start using a ruler draw out your first line for the length of the project, turning your ruler perpendicular to your first line. Now measuring the width of your project and make a mark, moving down the first line continue marking at the width of your project.

Once you’ve marked it all the way down, the draw your other length line using the makes to make sure you are even with your first length line. Connect your two lines to finish your outline. 🙂
