Sorry it’s been quiet for a hot minute! I’ve started working on a pixel heart quilt!
A pixel quilt is a quilt in which the small squares come together to form a picture. This is my first so I picked a pretty basic design, a heart with a solid background.
I figured using a basic design and some 5 inch squares this should be a breeze!
Well the cutting certainly was but now I am learning how important seam management in is!
the first couple of quilts I did were smaller, 4 inch squares and about 5 wide, 6 down. With only 30 squares and shorter rows I didn’t have to worry about the seams as much. Now this new blanket is 11 wide by 8 long it’s becoming a bit more complicated.
I spent about 2 hours pressing them all flat ! But I didn’t burn myself so that’s a plus!
The reason I’m finding that seam management is so important is because the seams bubble or bunch up the fabric. With a pixel quilt you really want your square to line up properly to create the picture so you have to pin them well.
When you press the seams the fabric lines up so nicely compared to before and make sewing the panels much easier.
While I’m only about 4 panels in so far, I think it’s coming out good!
Catch up with you all later ! PWJ
